Some farms have a great year. Carmen Estate has had a great decade, and their Geisha is a big part of why. They have won the Best of Panama with their Geisha washed and took two places in the top five in the Geisha natural category in a single year. Carmen Geisha is amongst my top coffees in Panama every year and this one is no exception.

Context

The Carmen Geisha Natural, sourced from the renowned Carmen Estate in Panama, represents a meticulous marriage of terroir and technique. As a Geisha varietal, this coffee is celebrated globally for its distinct, tea-like elegance and complex aromatic profile. By utilizing a natural process, the producers allow the coffee cherry to dry intact around the bean, a method that often imparts a heavier body and pronounced fruit-forward sweetness compared to washed counterparts.

Roasted by Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters, this lot highlights the potential of high-quality processing to elevate the inherent characteristics of the plant. When evaluating the nuances of such a refined cup, enthusiasts often find it helpful to reference a flavor wheel to better identify the subtle layers of acidity and sweetness present. This offering serves as a compelling example of how careful cultivation and precise post-harvest handling define the character of exceptional specialty coffee.
