Context

Sourced from the Mbozi region of Songwe, the Tanzania Iwalanje Coffee represents a distinct expression of East African viticulture. This lot is comprised of Peaberry beans, a natural mutation where a single, rounded seed develops inside the coffee cherry rather than the typical pair of flat-sided beans. Because these seeds are often denser and more uniform in size, they are frequently prized for their potential for even heat distribution during roasting. Processed using the washed method, this coffee emphasizes clarity and acidity, allowing the inherent characteristics of the terroir to shine through.

Roasted by Press Coffee Roasters, the profile balances bright citrus and lemongrass notes with a creamy caramel sweetness. When evaluating these complex layers, tasters may find it helpful to reference the flavor wheel to better categorize the interplay between the vibrant berry fruit salad acidity and the underlying sugary finish. This selection offers a refined look at the unique output of the Songwe region.
