History

From Nuwa Senchi in Amazonas, Peru, this coffee is the first harvest from Sonia Diaz’s Geisha, Marshell, and Bourbon plants. It is also our first purchase from Sonia, following our visit to her farm and continued collaboration in Jaén. Grown at 1,800–1,950 meters above sea level, this coffee reflects Sonia’s focus on quality, traceability, and careful processing. Through Nuwa Senchi, she is also creating new opportunities for Amazonian women and the next generation of coffee producers.

Context

Produced by Sonia Diaz in the Lonya Grande region of Amazonas, the Nuwa Senchi represents a distinct expression of Peruvian coffee. This lot features the Geisha varietal, a plant often celebrated in the industry for its potential for complex, tea-like clarity and delicate aromatics. Processed via the washed method, which typically emphasizes the inherent characteristics of the bean by removing the fruit pulp before drying, this coffee offers a clean profile that highlights the terroir of the 1800-1950 masl landscape.

Roasted by Prolog Coffee, the Nuwa Senchi balances its refined varietal traits with approachable, comforting notes of stone fruit, milk chocolate, and nuttiness. For those looking to further explore the nuances of such profiles, referencing a flavor wheel can be a helpful tool in identifying the specific sensory markers present in this cup. This selection serves as a compelling example of how careful cultivation and processing can shape the final experience in the cup.
