Context

Sourced from the Kayanza region of Burundi, the Gitwe lot represents a meticulous collaboration with Long Miles Coffee. This selection features the Bourbon varietal, a plant historically celebrated for its balanced sweetness and complex acidity. By utilizing a honey process, the producers have influenced the cup profile, which manifests as dried fruit, peach jam, and honey.

Honey-processed coffees often bridge the gap between the bright clarity of washed beans and the intense, fruit-forward character of natural-processed lots. Because the mucilage is left on the bean during drying, these coffees frequently exhibit a syrupy mouthfeel and heightened sweetness. To better understand how these specific descriptors align with broader sensory profiles, you may wish to consult the flavor wheel. This Gitwe offering highlights the unique terroir of high-altitude Burundi, showcasing the potential of traditional varietals when paired with precise post-harvest techniques.
