Context

Sourced from the Kayanza region of Burundi, the Gitwe lot represents a meticulous collaboration between Coffea Roasterie and the producers at Long Miles Coffee. This selection features the Bourbon varietal, a plant historically celebrated for its balanced sweetness and complex acidity. Grown at elevations between 1900 and 2100 meters, the cherries undergo a honey process, a technique that sits between washed and natural methods by leaving a portion of the fruit mucilage on the bean during drying. As detailed in our processing methods explainer, this approach often imparts a syrupy body and enhanced sweetness to the final cup. When evaluating the profile of dried fruit, peach jam, and honey, drinkers may find it helpful to reference the flavor wheel to better identify the nuanced sugars and stone fruit characteristics that define this specific harvest.
