Gaturiri mill has been serving smallholder farmers in the Nyeri highlands since the mid-60s. Each member tends an average of 300 coffee shrubs, delivering cherry one designated day per week during the November-January main harvest. This lot is a single week's worth of peaberry separation, a small, sweet bonus from an already exceptional harvest.

Bright and a little wild, this peaberry pulls you in with tart dried raspberry and fun, candy-sweet top notes, then settles into blackberry, plum, stonefruit, and dried currants, with rose threading through the finish. It's a lively cup with a lot going on in the best way.

Four Barrel Coffee

Context

This washed peaberry from Gaturiri mill in Kenya's Nyeri region showcases the classic elegance of SL28 & SL34 varietals. The washed processing method allows these heritage cultivars to express their distinctive character: Four Barrel's tasting notes highlight blackberry, plum, and stonefruit alongside dried currants and rose—a profile typical of high-altitude Kenyan coffees grown at 1770 masl. These notes suggest both bright acidity and subtle floral complexity, with the peaberry format potentially concentrating the coffee's inherent sweetness and body. SL28 and SL34 are prized for their balance of fruit-forward clarity and refined aromatic qualities, making this lot a compelling choice for drinkers seeking nuanced, origin-focused expression.
