Context
Sumatra Gayo Coffee, sourced from smallholder producers in the Aceh Gayo region, represents a distinct expression of the Typica varietal. Cultivated at 1550 masl, this lot undergoes an anaerobic natural process, a technique that often intensifies the fruit-forward characteristics of the bean. While processing methods significantly influence the final cup, anaerobic fermentation is frequently utilized to develop complex, wine-like profiles. When evaluating these specific notes of raspberry, sweet wine, and raisins, it can be helpful to reference the flavor wheel to better identify the nuances of such a profile. This particular offering is brought to you by Press Coffee Roasters, highlighting the unique potential of Indonesian coffee when paired with modern, experimental processing. By focusing on the interplay between traditional varietals and contemporary techniques, this coffee offers a compelling look at the evolving landscape of Sumatran production.
