From the roaster

HACIENDA LA ESMERALDA HAS DONE IT AGAIN — TAKING OUT A HISTORIC TRIPLE CROWN AT THE 2025 BEST OF PANAMA COMPETITION, TOPPING WASHED GEISHA, NATURAL GEISHA, AND TRADITIONAL VARIETALS, AND BREAKING RECORDS WITH 98 POINTS FOR THEIR WASHED GEISHA AND 97 FOR NATURAL.

WE’RE PROUD TO OFFER ONE OF THEIR MOST PRIZED LOTS: GUABO 5 NC, HARVESTED ON MARCH 12TH FROM THE GUABO LOT AT EL VELO FARM. CHERRIES WERE DRIED FOR 43 DAYS ON RAISED BEDS IN A CLIMATE-CONTROLLED INDOOR FACILITY — AIRFLOW, TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY ALL PRECISELY MANAGED TO BRING OUT THE CLEAREST EXPRESSION OF THE FRUIT.

THE RESULT IS RADIANT AND COMPLEX: JASMINE, PEACH, ORANGE BLOSSOM, AND PINEAPPLE. A RARE RELEASE — AND A PRIVILEGE TO SHARE.

Context

The Panama, Guabo 5 NC Geisha, roasted by Reuben Hills, represents a meticulous collaboration with Hacienda La Esmeralda. This lot showcases the Geisha varietal, a plant globally celebrated for its distinct floral and tea-like clarity. Because this coffee undergoes a natural process, it benefits from the extended contact between the bean and the fruit during drying, which often contributes to a more pronounced sweetness and complex acidity.

When evaluating the profile of this specific harvest, tasters may identify notes of jasmine, peach, orange blossom, and pineapple. To better understand how these descriptors align with broader sensory profiles, one might consult the flavor wheel. By combining the unique terroir of the Guabo region with the careful handling of the natural method, this coffee offers a refined expression of its origin, highlighting the delicate balance between floral aromatics and vibrant, fruit-forward characteristics.
