From the roaster

It's not argentina but I do love argentina. The buenos aires is just a group.I hesitate to buy Nic's because of our relationship with the Mierisch's. It's important to not minimize our purchases so that I can do "other" stuff. This last trip I was given a blessing to buy one off's like this. So you get this kind of exclusive to a degree species of coffee "maracaturra" that is a hybrid of catarrura and Maragogype "mar gee o epee".

I found this coffee to have that extra coffeeness a lot of people will like for a normie coffee but with that extra spice. There's caramels to be had but also a black tea like aspect you won't find in much of what we buy that's the non-microlot. There's also a backdrop of fruits at least a fruit like sweetness or sweet fruits without it being fruity at all. There's some baking spices (the extra spice I allude to) but nothing overall crazy. It's a pretty uniform coffee and one I wholeheartedly liked.

Context

The Nicaragua Buenos Aires Maracaturra, sourced by Royal Mile Coffee, represents a distinct expression of the Mierisch family’s production expertise. This lot features the Maracaturra varietal, a natural hybrid of the Maragogype and Caturra plants known for its exceptionally large bean size. In the cup, this coffee presents a complex profile defined by notes of caramels, black tea, sweet fruits, and baking spices.

When evaluating such nuanced profiles, tasters often reference the flavor wheel to categorize the interplay between the tea-like clarity and the deeper, spice-driven undertones. While Maracaturra is often celebrated for its unique physical characteristics, the specific profile of this Buenos Aires harvest highlights the balance achievable through careful cultivation. This offering serves as a compelling example of the diverse output from Nicaragua’s coffee-growing regions, showcasing how varietal selection directly influences the final sensory experience for the consumer.
