Featuring both limited edition 20th Anniversary Single Origin Espresso and Filter plus our special edition fan favourite, Old School Espresso:

  1. Honduras El Ocotillo Espresso:

This is a washed Pacas lot from El Ocotillo, our first relationship in Honduras, and a perfect coffee to celebrate our 20th Anniversary. Sugary sweet, syrupy & creamy body, with a lingering floral finish, this makes for a perfect single origin Espresso selection.

2. Colombia El Recuerdo Filter:

While we love to promote El Recuerdo's Pink Bourbons, we recently purchased a beautiful washed Caturra lot from Carlos, that was so outstanding we choose it as our 20th Anniversary Filter offering. It is further proof that Carlos produces excellence across the board. In the cup this washed lot has notes of peach candy, other yellow stone fruits, good viscosity, and florals and berries on the finish.

  1. Old School Espresso:

Old School Espresso is 49th's most traditional espresso, with a Pacific Northwest twist! Roasted medium-dark, highlights the sweetness and body of the coffee. Old School is ideal for those who prefer low acidity and full-body, with dark chocolate aromas and flavours of cocoa, caramel, and molasse.

Context

The 20th Anniversary Trio, sourced from producer Carlos in Colombia, represents a refined expression of the Caturra varietal. Roasted by 49th Parallel Coffee Roasters, this lot utilizes a washed process, a method typically employed to highlight the inherent clarity and acidity of the bean. While washed coffees are often celebrated for their clean, vibrant profiles, this specific selection offers a complex sensory experience characterized by notes of peach candy, yellow stone fruits, and berries, balanced by a notable viscosity and delicate florals.

When evaluating such nuanced profiles, enthusiasts often consult the flavor wheel to better identify the interplay between fruit-forward sweetness and structural body. By focusing on the meticulous preparation of the Caturra cherry, this offering showcases the potential for depth and elegance within the Colombian landscape, providing a sophisticated cup that bridges the gap between bright, fruit-driven acidity and a rich, lingering mouthfeel.
