Context

Produced by Fernando Elías and Silvia Elena, this La Union lot from the Cerro Alto region of Costa Rica showcases the distinct character of the SL28 varietal. While this cultivar is historically celebrated for its vibrant acidity and complex profile, its expression is further refined here through a traditional washed process. This method typically emphasizes a clean, focused cup profile, allowing the inherent qualities of the cherry to shine through with clarity.

Roasted by Axil Coffee Roasters, this selection presents a nuanced sensory experience defined by notes of apricot, mandarin, and molasses. When evaluating such profiles, enthusiasts often reference the flavor wheel to better identify the interplay between these bright fruit tones and the deeper, sugar-browning sweetness. By balancing the specific terroir of Cerro Alto with meticulous post-harvest handling, this coffee offers a compelling look at how regional conditions and varietal selection converge in the cup.
