Coffee Details

Hailing from the Wuri Coffee Station, this coffee is from around 850 smallholder farmers and is comprised of indigenous heirloom varietals. The district of Gedeb takes up the south-eastern corner of Ethiopia’s Gedeo Zone—a narrow section of plateau dense with savvy farmers whose coffee is known as “Yirgacheffe”, after the zone’s most famous district. This lot was washed and dried on raised beds, but what really makes it stand out is the extra process of having it milled to zero defects. We paid an extra premium for this additional layer of quality, which is well-reflected in the exceptional cleanliness of the cup.

Context

The Ethiopia Wuri, sourced by Case Coffee Roasters, represents the collaborative output of 850 smallholder farmers in the Gedeb district of the Gedeo Zone. This coffee is composed of Heirloom varietals, a term used to describe the diverse, indigenous coffee plants native to the Ethiopian landscape. By utilizing a washed process, the producers emphasize the inherent clarity and brightness of the bean, allowing the delicate characteristics of the region to shine through.

In the cup, this lot presents a profile defined by strawberry candy, ripe melon, and florals. While individual experiences may vary, those exploring these nuances can reference the flavor wheel to better identify the specific aromatic compounds present. Washed coffees from this region are frequently celebrated for their clean, tea-like elegance, providing a distinct contrast to the heavier, fruit-forward profiles often associated with natural-processed coffees.
