Coffee Details

We are very excited to offer you this rich, sugary coffee from the Gatomboya Factory in Nyeri, Kenya. It's a bit bigger and rounder than some of the brighter Kenyan offerings in our line-up. While deeply sweet, it's not lacking in complexity at all, making this one killer drip coffee or even espresso.

The local Gatomboya stream helps process this beautiful washed coffee. Around 600 farmers process their cherry at Gatomboya, where coffees are sorted by ripeness and quality before pulping and washing. This lot of coffee, made up exclusively of peaberries, received around 24-48 hours of fermentation before being laid to dry on raised beds.

Context

The Kenya Gatomboya Peaberry, sourced by Case Coffee Roasters, represents the distinct profile of the Nyeri region. As a peaberry selection, this lot features the naturally occurring single-seed cherry, which is often prized for its concentrated density and uniform roast development. Processed via the washed method, the coffee emphasizes clarity and acidity, allowing the specific characteristics of the Gatomboya Factory to shine through.

In the cup, this coffee presents a vibrant profile defined by notes of orange candy, sugar-browning, and cherry cola. While washed coffees are generally celebrated for their bright, clean acidity and transparent flavor profiles, the specific nuances of this lot can be further explored by referencing the flavor wheel. This selection highlights the meticulous processing standards typical of high-quality Kenyan production, offering a balanced experience that bridges the gap between deep, caramelized sweetness and bright, fruit-forward complexity.
