From the roaster

Danche Site, located in Yirgacheffe, is run by Habtamu Fikadu Aga. His work in coffee traces back to his grandfather Aga Dinsa, who harvested coffee on his farm in Kiru Kebele in 1945. In 2015, Habtamu Fikadu founded Kuri Mountain Coffee which handles Ethiopian coffee exports and manages several washing stations throughout the country, including Goro Site in Uraga, Guji, another stellar coffee we’ve carried this year.

This year’s harvest from Danche Site is exceptional. We taste a delicate burst of bright acidity and aromatic florals, reminiscent of hibiscus tea, jasmine, and bergamot. A crisp white-peach structure holds the cup from start to finish. Danche was one of our favorite coffees last year, and we’re excited to bring it back on the menu.

Context

Sourced from the high-altitude landscapes of Ethiopia · Yirgacheffe, this Danche lot is produced by Habtamu Fikadu Aga. The coffee features Ethiopian Landrace varietals grown between 2000 and 2300 masl. As a washed coffee, it highlights the inherent clarity and brightness often associated with this traditional preparation method, which typically emphasizes a clean cup profile. Roasted by Regalia Coffee, the selection showcases delicate, aromatic qualities including hibiscus tea, jasmine, bergamot, and white peach.

When evaluating such nuanced profiles, tasters often reference the flavor wheel to identify the subtle interplay between floral aromatics and stone fruit acidity. While washed coffees are frequently celebrated for their crisp, tea-like elegance, the specific terroir of Yirgacheffe remains a benchmark for these refined characteristics. This offering provides a focused look at how meticulous processing and regional conditions converge to produce a distinct, highly aromatic experience in the cup.
