Description

This is a beautiful washed lot, a blend of pacas and bourbon varietals. Sometimes we prefer to separate the varieties, other times they are both so good and complementary, that we blend them together to create a slightly larger micro lot. Here we find an elegant and plush espresso coffee with peach and strawberry jam notes.

Context

The Honduras Piedras Amarillas Espresso, sourced by 49th Parallel Coffee Roasters, highlights the distinct character of high-quality beans from Honduras. This specific lot features a blend of Pacas and Bourbon varietals, two cultivars widely respected for their balanced cup profiles. By utilizing a washed process, the roaster emphasizes a clean, refined clarity that allows the inherent sweetness of the fruit-forward notes—peach, puff pastry, and strawberry jam—to shine through in the cup.

While washed coffees are often celebrated for their bright acidity and crisp finish, the interplay between these specific varietals provides a structured foundation for espresso preparation. For those looking to better understand the nuances of these flavors, consulting a flavor wheel can be a helpful tool in identifying the subtle complexities present in this roast. This offering serves as a compelling example of how careful cultivation and precise processing can elevate a classic regional profile.
