From the roaster

It's extremely rare that we come across a natural processed coffee that we love. So rare that until now, we've never even offered one before. Natural processed coffees are dried leaving the coffee cherry intact, meaning some of the sugars of the drying, fermenting cherry are absorbed into the bean. Because the fruit is sitting there for days, breaking down in the sun, it tends to create an "over-ripe fruit" type flavor profile. Even so, we couldn't shake the feeling that an excellent natural coffee had to be out there; one that's not just ridiculously sweet and juicy, but meticulously clean as well. Then we tasted the Ardi, from the Sidama region of Ethiopia.

This uniquely sweet, heirloom variety coffee is named to honor a famous early human fossil discovered in Ethiopia; the cradle of coffee and humanity. The cup is incredibly sweet, tasting like spoonfuls of strawberry jam, white sugar and guava juice. Cleaner than any other natural we've ever tasted, it has a beautiful sparkling mouthfeel and crisp acidity. We are so excited to bring this unique coffee to you.

We roast and ship on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. All orders placed before 10AM ship that day.

Context

Sourced from the Sidama region of Ethiopia, the Ethiopia Ardi Natural by Case Coffee Roasters highlights the distinct character of heirloom coffee varieties. This lot undergoes a natural process, a method where the coffee cherry remains intact while drying, often allowing the fruit’s sugars to permeate the bean. Generally, natural-processed coffees are known for their heavier body and pronounced fruit-forward profiles, which can range from bright berry notes to deep, jammy sweetness.

When evaluating this coffee, tasters may identify notes of strawberry jam, white sugar, and guava juice. To better understand how these specific descriptors fit into the broader spectrum of coffee quality and sensory analysis, consult the flavor wheel. This selection serves as a classic example of the vibrant, complex profiles often associated with Ethiopian coffee production, offering a sensory experience that balances intense fruit sweetness with a clean, sugary finish.
