From the roaster

We are very excited to offer you this rich, sugary coffee from the Gatomboya Factory in Nyeri, Kenya. It's a bit bigger and rounder than some of the brighter Kenyan offerings in our line-up. Expect lots of deep sweetness and notes of cola, rainbow sherbet, raspberry and blackberry. The cup has a rounded acidity and full body with lots of sugar-browing, reminding us of cherry cola. While deeply sweet, it's not lacking in complexity at all, making this one killer drip coffee or even espresso.

The local Gatomboya stream helps process this beautiful washed coffee. Around 600 farmers process their cherry at Gatomboya, where coffees are sorted by ripeness and quality before pulping and washing. This coffee received around 24-48 hours of fermentation before being laid to dry on raised beds.

We roast and ship on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. All orders placed before 10AM

Context

Sourced from the Nyeri region of Kenya, the Kenya Gatomboya is a standout offering from Case Coffee Roasters. This lot is processed using the washed method, a technique often employed to highlight the inherent acidity and clean, vibrant profiles characteristic of high-quality East African beans. You can learn more about how these processing methods influence the final cup profile in our technical guide.

The roaster identifies a complex array of flavors in this coffee, ranging from deep, dark fruit notes like blackberry and cherry cola to the bright, multi-layered sweetness of rainbow sherbet. When evaluating such nuanced profiles, it is helpful to reference the flavor wheel to better categorize these distinct sensory experiences. While washed coffees are generally celebrated for their crisp clarity and refined acidity, this specific selection from the Gatomboya Factory offers a particularly expressive example of the region's potential.
