From the roaster

Grown in the highlands of Shakiso in Ethiopia's renowned Guji region, this exceptional coffee is produced by Biru Bekele in partnership with more than 300 dedicated smallholder farmers. Cultivated at elevations between 1,900 and 2,100 meters, the coffee thrives in fertile volcanic soils and a cool mountain climate that encourage slow cherry maturation and exceptional cup quality. After harvest, the cherries are carefully hand-picked, depulped within hours, fermented, fully washed, and dried on raised beds for 10 to 14 days. This meticulous process brings remarkable clarity and balance to the cup, revealing delicate floral aromatics, elegant tea-like notes, and bright citrus complexity. A true reflection of Guji's celebrated terroir and Biru Bekele's commitment to quality, this coffee captures the vibrant character that has made Ethiopian coffees some of the world's most sought-after.

Context

Sourced from the Guji region of Ethiopia, this washed coffee is produced by Biru Bekele. Ethiopia is widely recognized as the birthplace of Arabica, and coffees from Guji are frequently celebrated for their distinct, elegant profiles. Because this lot undergoes a washed process, the inherent characteristics of the bean are often highlighted with greater clarity and acidity compared to natural-processed counterparts.

Roasted by Radio Roasters Coffee, this selection features notes of oolong tea and lemon. These bright, tea-like qualities are classic hallmarks of high-elevation Ethiopian coffees, which often exhibit a refined, delicate structure. When evaluating the nuances of such a cup, drinkers may find it helpful to consult a flavor wheel to better identify the specific citrus and botanical undertones present. This offering provides a clean, vibrant expression of its terroir, showcasing the meticulous care taken by the producer at altitudes between 1900 and 2100 masl.
