From the roaster

We've got a small amount of a non-natural origin which is a thing I like to check out from time to time. I also like PNG washed so this puts those juicy fruits square into our sights. I found this coffee to retain a bit of what I like with PNG as a generalized origin. We got a good mix of mushed together fruits alongside a slightly boozy type of coffee. This wont knock your socks off but if you get tired of the Ethiopia Natural thing, certainly not a bad thing to check out.

Context

Papua New Guinea is a unique origin in the coffee world, often characterized by its rugged terrain and diverse microclimates. This specific offering from Royal Mile Coffee utilizes a natural process, a technique where the coffee cherry is dried intact around the bean. Generally, natural-processed coffees tend to show heavier fruit profiles and increased sweetness compared to their washed counterparts, as the bean absorbs sugars from the drying fruit flesh. You can learn more about how these techniques influence the final cup in our processing methods explainer.

In the cup, this Papua New Guinea Natural presents a profile described by the roaster as mushed together fruits and boozy notes. These descriptors often point toward intense fermentation characteristics common in natural processing. To better identify and categorize these complex sensations, we recommend referencing our flavor wheel to help articulate the specific nuances you encounter while brewing this distinct selection.
