From the roaster

This is not a ethiopia style fruit bomb. I got a mostly fruity natural type full of bright notes and chocolates. I would give a huge thumbs up for this as espresso.

Context

The Rwanda Natural Busanze, sourced by Royal Mile Coffee, offers a compelling look at the evolving landscape of East African coffee production. While Rwanda is historically recognized for its washed processing, the adoption of natural processing—where the coffee cherry is dried intact—has introduced a distinct profile to the region. Generally, natural-processed coffees tend to show heavier fruit characteristics and increased sweetness compared to their washed counterparts.

In this specific lot, the roaster highlights a combination of fruity, bright notes balanced by chocolate undertones. These descriptors align with the broader spectrum of flavors often explored when using a flavor wheel to categorize complex cup profiles. By focusing on the interplay between the inherent brightness of Rwandan beans and the depth provided by the natural process, this coffee serves as an excellent example of how post-harvest techniques can significantly influence the final sensory experience in the cup.
