From the roaster

Not an overly funky natural coffee from Burundi. I find this to have a bit more elegant and fruity note than the Rwanda i'm also carrying. I got a bit of a Strawberry fruit tone as the lead note.

Context

The Burundi Natural Bavyeyi, sourced by Royal Mile Coffee, offers a focused expression of the unique terroir found in Burundi. As a natural-processed coffee, the cherries are dried with the fruit intact, a technique that often imparts a distinct sweetness and heavier body to the final cup. While natural-processed coffees frequently exhibit vibrant, fruit-forward profiles, this specific lot is characterized by a clear strawberry note. To better understand how the processing methods influence these sensory qualities, one might consult the flavor wheel to identify the nuances of such fruit-driven profiles. This selection highlights the potential of the region to produce clean, expressive coffees that showcase the impact of traditional drying practices on the bean’s inherent character. It serves as an excellent example for those looking to explore the intersection of origin-specific cultivation and careful post-harvest handling.
