From the roaster

This is a black label 6oz coffee - as a heads up.

It being the higher end of our lineup you should have a bit more of an expectation. So I'll attempt to get that across. The downside is that this is a washed which tends not to be that "wow" compared to the fruit ferments or naturals but I can tell you it's a wow washed type. It's a day harvest micro lot which isn't exactly normal for Ethiopia in my experience but is a thing. I got a pretty explosive set of taste notes but nothing will shine over top and I think that is what makes it special. This tastes more like a gesha in its core components without actually being one. I got red fruits, a high level of sweetness, hibiscus, pomegranate, jasmine, lemon and lime. There's more to be found there too.

Give this a whirl about pour over and iced.

Only 69 bags made. All roasted June 1 or June 2.

Context

Sourced from the Duwancho Village in Ethiopia, this Ethiopia · Duwancho Village selection represents the classic profile often associated with the region’s high-quality harvests. Roasted by Royal Mile Coffee, this lot undergoes a washed process, a technique typically employed to highlight the inherent clarity and acidity of the bean. By removing the fruit flesh before drying, producers emphasize the delicate, nuanced characteristics of the coffee cherry.

In the cup, this offering presents a vibrant array of red fruits, pomegranate, and hibiscus, balanced by the bright, citrus-forward notes of lemon and lime. Subtle floral undertones of jasmine provide a refined sweetness that rounds out the experience. For those looking to better identify these specific nuances, consulting a flavor wheel can be a helpful tool for mapping the complex interplay between the bright acidity and the floral aromatics found in this particular washed Ethiopian coffee.
