About The Coffee:Muchagara Washing Station is located in Kirinyaga, on the slopes of Mount Kenya, where smallholder farmers deliver ripe cherries to the Baragwi Farmers’ Cooperative Society. The region’s high elevation and rich volcanic soils provide ideal conditions for growing Kenya’s renowned SL28 and SL34 varieties.

Cherries are carefully hand-selected before being pulped and fully washed. The coffee is fermented, washed through grading channels and slowly dried on raised African drying beds. This traditional processing produces a clean, vibrant cup that highlights the character of Kirinyaga coffees.

Context

Sourced from the Kirinyaga region of Kenya, the Muchagara lot is produced by the Baragwi Farmers’ Cooperative Society. This coffee is prepared using the washed process, a method typically employed to highlight a clean cup profile and vibrant acidity. When evaluating such coffees, enthusiasts often look for the bright, crisp characteristics that define the region's output, which can be mapped using a flavor wheel to better identify specific nuances.

Roasted by Axil Coffee Roasters, this selection presents a distinct profile featuring notes of dried apricot, pear cider, lemon, and date. While washed coffees are generally celebrated for their clarity and structural precision, the specific interplay of these fruit-forward notes reflects the unique terroir of the Kirinyaga district. This offering serves as a compelling example of the meticulous processing standards maintained by the Baragwi Farmers’ Cooperative Society, resulting in a balanced and expressive cup.
