From the roaster

Dida Hora is the newest washing station operated by Tesfaye Bekele, the visionary behind Suke Quto. Located northwest of Shakisso in the district of Uraga, the station collects and processes coffee from 350 local farmers.

This is our first Ethiopian offering of the season and among the best washed coffees from Ethiopia we've tasted in years. With a hue that leans a little more "golden" than Suke Quto's, this coffee is delicate and sweet with subtle floral notes. We're finding notes of apricot, peach, rainier cherry, orange blossom honey, and chamomile in an incredibly easy drinking cup.

Context

Sourced from the Uraga region of Ethiopia, this selection by Partners Coffee highlights the distinct character of high-elevation Ethiopian production. As detailed in our regional guide, Uraga is recognized for producing coffees with vibrant, nuanced profiles. This specific lot, produced by Tesfaye Bekele, undergoes a washed process, a method typically employed to emphasize clarity and acidity.

In the cup, this coffee presents a delicate interplay of stone fruit and floral sweetness, featuring notes of apricot, peach, and Rainier cherry, balanced by the subtle aromatics of orange blossom honey and chamomile. While washed coffees are often celebrated for their clean, tea-like elegance, the specific expression of these flavors can be further explored using our flavor wheel. This offering serves as a refined example of the meticulous processing standards found within the Uraga district, showcasing the bright, complex potential inherent to the region's heirloom varieties.
