Suke Quto Farm sits high in the Guji region of southern Ethiopia, where coffee grows between 1,800 and 2,200 metres above sea level. The farm is managed by Tesfaye Bekele, who works with local outgrowers alongside his own coffee land.

The farm’s fertile volcanic soils are carefully maintained through organic recycling, using leaf litter and natural plant matter from the coffee and shade trees. This helps create a healthy environment for the coffee to thrive.

For this Natural lot, ripe coffee cherries are selectively picked and dried slowly on raised beds for 9–15 days. The extended drying process allows the fruit to develop naturally around the coffee seed, creating a cup with a lively, fruit-forward character and layered sweetness.

Suke Quto Natural reflects the distinctive character of Guji: bright, aromatic and expressive, with a clean structure and lingering sweetness. It is a coffee that showcases both the quality of its high-altitude growing environment and the careful work behind every harvest.

Context

Sourced from the Guji region of Ethiopia, the Ethiopia Suke Quto is a natural-processed lot produced by Tesfaye Bekele. This coffee features the Welicho varietal, cultivated at elevations between 1850 and 2200 masl. As offered by PPP Coffee, the profile is characterized by distinct notes of blueberry, peach, and floral aromatics.

In the broader context of specialty coffee, natural-processed coffees—where the fruit remains intact during drying—often exhibit heavier fruit-forward profiles and increased sweetness compared to washed counterparts, as detailed in our guide to processing methods. When evaluating such complex profiles, tasters often reference the flavor wheel to identify the nuanced interplay between stone fruit and floral characteristics. This specific lot highlights the unique terroir of Guji, showcasing the depth and clarity that Ethiopian coffees are frequently celebrated for in the global market.
