From the roaster

To me at first sip I spotted the process's impact on the coffee but maybe I'm just a hog for kenya coffees in general that I just know them so well. It's very fruit bomb ethiopia type but also not but also the sour grapefruits you'd expect. It sounds weird bit it's not. It's sort of a "big" flavor profile in that it doesn't do subtle so that you pick out individual fruits similar to those strawberry bombs but it does a lot of fruit taste. I won't say this is the best DP i've had from Kenya but if you haven't you certainly should give it a whirl as it doesn't happen too often.

Context

The Kenya Kaguynu Dry Process, offered by Royal Mile Coffee, represents a distinct expression of the Kenya terroir. While Kenyan coffees are traditionally celebrated for their vibrant acidity and bright profiles, this specific lot utilizes the dry process, a method that often imparts a heavier body and more pronounced fruit-forward characteristics compared to the standard washed preparations common in the region.

In the cup, this coffee presents notes of sour grapefruit and fruit. When evaluating these complex profiles, it is helpful to consult the flavor wheel to better identify the nuances between citrus acidity and deeper fruit tones. By choosing a dry-processed approach, this selection highlights how post-harvest handling can significantly shift the sensory experience of beans from this renowned origin, offering a unique departure from the classic Kenyan profile while maintaining the intensity expected from the region.
