From the roaster

This coffee is part of an ongoing initiative with one of the places I buy from that establishes relationships with producers and growing groups. Take that as you will. It's not direct trade but it's something we can consistently buy from and I like that I could visit if I want. The flip side is that this coffee will hang around and be more of a single origin staple (I hope) should market conditions not suck for the entire world.

I like this coffee for those reasons I like coffees from non-ethiopia/colombia lanes doing the ethiopia thing. It's a dry process to be SURE and for those wanting that funky stinky lane this even I would say goes more into the anaerobic lane than you might expect from those fruit bomb types. There's a lot of wine and cola (or soda or whatever) elements I picked up on. Very sweet and a chonky body.

Context

The Uganda Bulambuli Dry Process, sourced by Royal Mile Coffee, offers a distinct look at the coffee production emerging from the Bulambuli region. As a dry-processed coffee, this lot undergoes a method where the fruit remains intact during drying, a technique that often imparts a heavier body and more pronounced sweetness compared to washed counterparts. You can learn more about the nuances of these techniques in our processing methods explainer.

In the cup, this selection presents a profile characterized by wine-like acidity and cola-like sweetness. These descriptors often fall into the deeper, more complex segments of the flavor wheel, which serves as a helpful guide for identifying such characteristics. While natural-processed coffees are frequently celebrated for their intense fruit-forward profiles, this specific Ugandan offering highlights the unique terroir of the Bulambuli region, providing a robust and memorable experience for those who enjoy a fuller-bodied cup.
