Fuglen Coffee Roasters Tokyo was established in 2014 as a micro-roastery in Shibuya, two years after the original Fuglen Tokyo café opened in 2012 as the brand's first international outpost introducing Norwegian coffee culture to Japan. The roastery sources seasonal, fresh coffee from farms around the world through transparent supply chains, and team members visit producers annually to verify growing conditions and production processes, aiming for a mutually beneficial relationship with farmers. Their roasting philosophy, described as Nordic Roast, focuses on bringing out the natural fruit character of coffee alongside soft sweetness and a long, clean finish—an approachable style intended even for those who have previously disliked coffee. The name Fuglen means 'bird' in Norwegian, and the logo depicts an Arctic tern, the world's longest-distance migratory bird, reflecting the brand's ethos of traveling between port cities and absorbing the best energy each place has to offer. Fuglen offers retail beans, drip bags, subscriptions, and wholesale services.
